This is a reconstructed newsboy cap from the early 1900s, found in the warehouse of an antique dealer in New Jersey.
In 19th century America, boys selling newspapers wore this cap, hence the name 'newsboy cap', but it seems that working-class men of the time commonly wore this 'flat cap with a front brim' regardless of their profession.
At the time of purchase, it was not in a wearable condition, but a strong sentiment was felt from the previous owner.
Two types of fabric were used. The striped fabric is a mélange stripe that was used in jackets from the 20s to 30s in France. Analysis revealed that there are 5 types of warp threads,
and the fabric is made of a special structure called double woven warp. The thickness and combination of the threads were carefully considered to create the original.
The twisted gabardine is made of original fabric using threads of 'kemono-giri', which has a texture similar to animal hair. It was analyzed and referenced from chambray fabric used in Italian military pants in the 1910s. Two types of warp threads and a total of 4 colors of threads were used to create a depth and a smudged surface feel.
As a finish, a de-oiling washer was applied to achieve a smooth texture.
