During that time, workwear made from indigo-dyed denim known as Ahina was born in Hawaii for plantation workers laboring in pineapple and sugarcane fields. The history of Ahina pants began with a fabric thickness of around 10oz, and there was a constant demand for sturdier types, prompting searches in Japan for the ideal fabric.
