In the mid-1960s, the U.S. military adopted a leaf pattern uniform designed for camouflage, making it difficult for enemy troops to detect. Commonly referred to as 'ERDL', this camouflage pattern was developed by the U.S. Army's Engineer Research and Development Laboratory, hence the abbreviation. This jacket is a special piece personally ordered by Kellogg, a member of the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion of the U.S. Marine Corps, during the Vietnam War. While it showcases unit pride on the back, it also embodies a profound sense of futility regarding the war. This battalion was formed in 1942 with the purpose of supporting the 3rd Marine Division and the Pacific Marine Corps, and it continues to operate amphibiously today, holding a rich history.
