Japanese immigrants who forged new paths in the foreign land of Hawaii held on to their country's auspicious symbols as a source of comfort and proudly wore them. This work dynamically portrays a hawk soaring amidst turbulent waves, expressing a sense of motion through its vibrant colors. While there are many renowned designs of hawk-patterned aloha shirts, this piece stands out, originally crafted by Musashiya Shoten Limited. The brand "Musashiya" was passed on to Fujii Junichi Shoten in 1934 from Japanese immigrant, Miyamoto Koichiro, and it was instrumental in the promotion of aloha shirts, featuring advertisements in the Honolulu Advertiser using the term 'Aloha Shirt.'
