This piece from Kamehameha Garment Company is inspired by the song titled "The Cockeyed Mayor of Kaunakakai," created in 1935. The story begins with a joke where Edward McCallister, a powerful figure from Molokai, recommends movie star Warner Baxter as the honorary mayor of Kaunakakai. Thinking a theme song is needed, Edward quickly commissions its creation. After hearing the song, local affluent resident Paul Feigen decides to invite Baxter to Molokai. Baxter himself loved the song, leading to his visit on April 30, 1935, where a grand parade was held in his honor as the fictional mayor. This shirt, composed of the events surrounding Mayor Baxter and the song lyrics, is historically significant and valuable.
