Founded by Raymond Sasaki, the brand originally produced hand-block printed tablecloths for Sears during the war. In 1949, Raymond began manufacturing Aloha shirts in collaboration with textile designer Frank Yastaro Oda. MALIHINI is celebrated for its innovative designs, showcasing traditional Japanese patterns using unique techniques that set trends in Aloha shirts.

This special reissue features a design inspired by the Kamehameha royal family, crafted by Frank Oda. The shirt's construction positions the royal portraits upside down, sparking considerable controversy at the time of its release. The design artfully depicts “KING KAMEHAMEHA,” “KING KALAKAUA,” and the contested “QUEEN LILIUOKALANI” against a striking background of grass mats and Night-Blooming Sirius.
