The iconic item of Taiga Takahashi, the 1920s denim jacket.
Taiga Takahashi preferred denim from store brands over Levi's, particularly the brand Foremost sold at J.C. Penny. They began making denim in the 1920s that imitated Levi's, gradually developing original designs. By collecting these denims, you can feel the intention behind their efforts to differentiate from Levi's in the details, and thus, the original denim of Taiga Takahashi was born.
Made from USA-grown organic cotton, this is 3/1 left twill, light ounce denim woven on vintage shuttle looms in Okayama. The denim fabric, woven slowly on a shuttle loom that operates at one-tenth to one-twentieth the speed of modern looms, retains the natural bumps of the cotton yarn, resulting in an intentional irregularity. The warp yarn is dyed with sulfur dyes mixed with indigo, featuring a weathered green cast color. It is dyed core white with rope dyeing. The weft yarn uses a custom nepp yarn dyed in a yellowed, natural color that evokes the passage of time. By using these two types of yarn, Taiga Takahashi arrived at a deep and rich indigo blue unique to them. The finishing includes a shrink-proof process called sanforization. It features 'white ear' selvedge denim, with white ear used in various places like the front hem and cuff lining. This jacket has a patch pocket only on one side, with a simple construction featuring just the stitches to hold the pleats on the front panel. The silhouette has a flat construction with straight-attached sleeves and a shoulder line that lacks slope. The custom engraved buttons and back are all made of iron and are not plated on the surface, allowing for rusting over time to appreciate the aging process. It replicates all details exactly as they were made in the 1920s, using the same methods as back then. The signature leather patch is mud-dyed in Amami Oshima.
After washing, there will be a shrinkage of 2-3%.
