These wide silhouette selvage jeans made from original denim fabric from Okayama are iconic pieces from Taiga Takahashi.
Using US organic cotton, these are 3/1 left-twill, light-weight denim woven on old-fashioned shuttle looms in Okayama. The denim fabric woven slowly on shuttle looms, which can only weave at a speed 1/10 to 1/20 of modern looms, retains the natural irregularities of cotton yarn, creating a desirable variance. The warp is dyed indigo mixed with sulfur dyes, characterized by a weathered green cast. It is dyed to a white core using rope dyeing. The weft uses custom nep yarn, dyed in a yellowish, natural tone that evokes a sense of time passing. By using these two types of threads, we have achieved Taiga Takahashi's unique, deep and rich indigo blue. Finished with a shrink-resistant process called sanforized, it features a 'white ear' selvage denim fabric, with the white ear utilized in various places such as the back of the belt. By the 1940s, details began to change, such as the use of decorative snap buttons instead of the rugged iron buttons. We researched the Art Deco style buttons and rivets that were commonly used at that time and recreated them in original colors. The signature leather patch is dyed with mud from Amami Oshima.
There will be a 2-3% shrinkage after washing.
