In the prosperous 1950s, zippers (fasteners) began to be used in various items. At that time, the looped pile fabric knitted on a circular knitting machine had a firm texture but lacked elasticity, which was compensated by adding gussets either at the front or both front and back. Alongside these improvements, zippers rapidly gained popularity. The collared design is efficiently made in a single layer rather than a two-layer like a shirt, and is finished in such a way that it creates a natural wrinkled feel after washing. This Lot.621 features a cut-off sleeve based on the reference of Lot.611 Half Zip Sweat Shirt. The tubular looped pile fabric is slowly knitted over time on a circular knitting machine. The circular knitting machine was brought to Japan during the Taisho era and is currently the only one operating in Wakayama Prefecture. Although it is an inefficient machine that can only knit 1 meter per hour, the slow knitting process results in fabric that has a soft irregular feel and unique texture as it incorporates air. By mixing this fabric with top-dyed cotton, a mottled expression is enhanced. Adding long-staple processing to the product creates a used feel reminiscent of sun exposure and color fading over time.
The zipper pull with Art Deco-style grooves commonly seen in the 1920s is made from an original design.
