The T-shirt is one of the iconic garments of America, originally developed as an undershirt worn under uniforms and military attire. This simple garment embodies America's rational approach to manufacturing.
Characterized by a no-waste structure with a tube-shaped fabric called 'marudō' that has holes for the neck and arms, as well as sleeves attached. While its appearance is close to modern everyday wear, its nature is quite different. The design faithfully reproduces the specifications of the time, with no shoulder slope, a neckline similar to a boat neck, and a neck rib that is double-stitched to prevent stretching.
This tube-shaped jersey fabric is slowly knitted over time using existing looping knitting machines.
The looping knitting machine was brought to Japan during the Taisho era and is now the only one in the world operating in Wakayama Prefecture. It is a highly inefficient machine that can only knit one meter an hour, but because of this, the fabric develops a pleasant unevenness and rich texture as if infused with air. By using USA cotton as the material, the fabric is finished with a dry texture and unique feel. YAKUSUGI, SAKURA, MUD DYED BROWN, and USUZUMI are all painstakingly dyed by hand, resulting in unique expressions where no two pieces are alike.
