Style FORESTRY KHAKI

This logger jacket, believed to have been worn by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) since around 1934, features a design that dates back to the forest workers of the 1920s. The upper part above the chest is double-layered for durability and is designed to prevent rainwater intrusion. Efficiently crafted with minimal seams and utilizing selvedge design, it presents a very tough impression as workwear. The robust cotton canvas fabric is thought to have been used by the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot, which produced garments for the army, and was also employed for CCC tents and sleeping bags, leading to the jacket's creation around the same time. Updated with seam pockets while retaining the specifications of the original, the garment is dyed in a color reminiscent of what forest workers wore. As a special piece, it features a garment dye using persimmon tannin—historically applied to enhance fabric durability—along with a marbling pattern that reflects the annual rings of trees, captured point by point from the water's surface. Marbling, rooted in a pastime from the Heian period, is a technique originally used to transfer ink from water to washi paper. By slowly dripping ink into the center of circles, irregular concentric rings are formed on the water's surface. Each jacket is floated on this water surface to capture the unique concentric patterns, as identical patterns are never repeated due to subtle movements in the wind. This design encapsulates both the beauty of nature, which cannot be controlled by human hands, and the time it takes to create these rings.
