LOT.325 LOGGER JACKET
lot-325-logger-jacket-olive26ss
This logger jacket is said to have been worn by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) since around 1934. The design itself dates back to the 1920s, worn by forest workers.
The upper part above the chest features a double structure for durability and is designed to prevent rainwater intrusion. It incorporates a pattern with minimal seams and selvage, creating a tough impression as workwear.
Made from sturdy cotton canvas, the fabric is believed to have been used for tents and sleeping bags by the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot, which manufactured clothing for the Army at the time. This jacket likely originated around the same period.
Building on the original specifications, seam pockets have been added for an update. The garment has been garment-dyed in colors inspired by the clothing of forest workers.
As a special piece, it is garment-dyed with persimmon tannin, traditionally used to enhance fabric durability, and features a marbling pattern resembling growth rings, which is captured one point at a time from the surface of the water.
The marbling technique originates from a pastime in the Heian period, initially used to transfer ink from the water surface onto washi paper. By slowly dropping ink in the center of a circle, irregular concentric rings gradually form on the water's surface.
Each jacket is floated on the water's surface to capture the concentric circular patterns. Due to subtle movements of the wind, the same pattern will never appear twice. By entrusting the final touch to nature, this design encompasses the time taken to form the beauty and circles of nature that cannot be controlled by human hands.
