Reconstructed from a newsboy cap found in an antique dealer's warehouse in New Jersey from the early 1900s.
In 19th century America, the boys selling newspapers wore this cap, which led to it being called the “newsboy cap,” but it seems that men of the working class generally wore this “flat cap with a visor” regardless of their occupation.
At the time of purchase, it was not in a wearable condition, but a strong sentiment was felt from the previous owner.
Two types of fabric were used. The striped fabric is a mélange stripe that was used in jackets from the 1920s to 1930s in France. Analysis shows that the warp thread consists of five types, and
the weave is a rare type of fabric known as a double warp weave. The thickness and combination of the threads were carefully considered and created originally.
The twist melange gabardine is an original fabric made from yarn that has a texture like animal fur. It was analyzed and referenced from chambray fabric used in Italian military pants from the 1910s. Since two types of warp threads and a total of four colors of yarn are used, it adds depth and a blurred surface texture.
Finally, it was finished with a degreased washer to achieve a smooth texture.
