The M-65 continues to reign as the ultimate field jacket. Its roots can be traced back to the M-41 field jacket of World War II, evolving through trial and error over time, reaching its perfected form during the Vietnam War. This highly accomplished M-65 has had a significant impact on civilian clothing even today, and it was a groundbreaking jacket at the time, gaining immense popularity among soldiers.
In Vietnam, U.S. military personnel could have custom clothing made for a surprisingly low cost. Soldiers would take their issued jackets to local tailors around the base and request, 'Please make me a jacket in the same style, using available materials.' This resulted in jackets like the unique tiger pattern that differed from the standard-issue items.
