This item features a vintage woven stripe denim that is rarely found today, originally advertised in 1914. Instead of a printed design, the emphasis is placed on the woven stripes, which likely served as competition against companies like Stifel and their Wabash stripes. The fabric was analyzed from a fabric swatch attached to a novelty notebook distributed at retail locations, using 10 count cotton thread in indigo and charcoal colors, woven in a left-hand twill.
The design is a simple overall with a single pocket on the bib, predating the patents for pocket watches (November 1916) and ruler pockets (April 1919). It features a low-back type with elastic parts printed with the logo on the shoulder straps, and the waist is adjustable with a cinch back. The center seam of the bib utilizes selvedge fabric.
Complete Series of the Reproduction "HEADLIGHT"
This series started in the early 1900s and continued until the 1960s under the Laird-Carter brand. Uniquely for its time, it showcased a commitment to quality with in-house production from weaving to sewing. As indicated by the trademark on labels and flashers, it was favored by railroad workers and engineers. Today, this series revives rare items that are still in high demand among collectors, making them hard to find.
