This band collar shirt is based on a dress shirt from the 1910s found in New York. At that time, the white shirt (plain white dress shirt) was considered the epitome of elegance, and owning a certain number of them became a status symbol for the wealthy. For those who only had the bare minimum, detachable collars emerged, allowing for the washing of just the collar while still being able to wear the white shirt. In the 1910s, when three-dimensional patterns were mainstream, the structure of this shirt is quite unique. It features a shoulder line without a shoulder slope and straight sleeves attached to a snug armhole. It has more straight lines in its pattern than one might expect. This linear pattern is directly reflected in the design, along with the lost band collar. The indigo version reproduces the WABASH fabric (discharge) seen in early 20th-century workwear, discharged with a snowflake pattern found in Japanese kimonos. The sumi dye version uses mica, a pigment used to depict snow in ukiyo-e, applying hand screen printing to aim for the lyrical quality that can be seen in ukiyo-e.
