This jacket was ordered by American soldiers stationed in Vietnam during the late 1960s (1968-69) and brought back to the United States. The dragon embroidery on this jacket is exceptionally rare among the commonly map-patterned Vietnamese jackets. While there are several vintage pieces featuring dragon designs, none compare to the vividness and impact of this embroidery. Both the dragon on the back and the one on the sleeves are intricately depicted using multiple colors, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship that was prevalent at the time. The character '福' (meaning 'fortune') on the left chest is slightly smaller than usual, yet it is recreated using two-color threads in a balance consistent with vintage styles.
