During World War I, U.S. Army soldiers wore brown denim pullovers and trousers for their tasks. In June 1919, indigo denim was adopted. Trousers were issued in 1937, featuring an adjustable cinch back belt without a yoke at the waist. These trousers come with a total of five pockets—two at the front, two at the back, and one watch pocket—details that were inherited by subsequent work trousers and chinos.
