The souvenir jacket (sukajan) is said to have originated as a keepsake for American soldiers stationed in Japan after the war, featuring embroidered emblems of their affiliated units. The company involved in its inception was Kōshō Shōkai, which was the predecessor of Tōyō Enterprise. This trading company was established after the dissolution of the zaibatsu and was involved in the import and export of textiles, having a deep connection with fabrics for aloha shirts.
This is the third revival of this work, which features the popular designs of the eagle, tiger, and dragon among the souvenir jackets produced by Kōshō. At that time, all fabrics printed with oriental designs (Japanese patterns) on crepe materials were printed in Japan, and the aloha shirt movement that arose in post-war Hawaii and mainland America had a significant impact on Japan as well. This piece was uniquely produced for sale at American military PX (post exchanges) by Kōshō Shōkai, making it a very rare item bearing the brand name “FASHION MART” used by Kōshō for overseas exports.

By the mid-20th century, when Hawaii established itself as a tourist destination, the demand for aloha shirts as souvenirs surged dramatically. Designs and patterns diversified, leading to the creation of many works. It is a special piece that can be encountered very rarely during the process of collecting vintage aloha shirts. In tribute to the textile designers who created those masterpieces, which are gradually being lost over time, the special edition showcases luxurious multi-color prints, impressive designs, and replicates the details that vary by manufacturer and era without missing any of its charm.
