This piece draws inspiration from the legend of dragons, believed to have originated from a mythical water serpent. It features a unique representation of a dragon. Chinese immigrants have long engaged in labor in Hawaii, rediscovering and reshaping their cultural traditions alongside Japanese immigrants, thereby creating a new cultural identity. The remnants of Chinese-style buildings from that period still stand in Honolulu's Chinatown, housing numerous stores selling imported Chinese goods, showcasing the significant cultural impact they had on Hawaii.

This design was created by Muriel Mercer, a textile designer who studied at an art school in Chicago and later refined her skills at the University of Hawaii. Familiarly known in Hawaii’s textile scene as "Lady Muriel," she was a popular designer. Produced by the American brand HAUOLI KAMAAINA, this piece emphasizes the discharge technique, dynamically portraying a flying dragon on filament rayon fabric and incorporating motifs from Chinese temples, resulting in a highly unique design.
