Everyone has seen the beloved character "Uncle Toris" at least once. The mastermind behind this character is Ryohei Yanagihara, a master of advertising art. With fans not only in Japan but also around the globe, his works continue to influence many artists today. In 1961, he created the advertisement for the campaign "Let's Go to Hawaii," establishing a deep connection with Hawaii's imagery. SUNSURF previously collaborated with Keoni of Hawaii to produce original aloha shirts, which received tremendous acclaim, leading to ongoing explorations for new developments. After approximately ten years of preparation, a new collection is set to be unveiled in 2024. The design, faithfully carrying on his creative vision, is brought to life by Mookie Sato, the only artist officially permitted to make alterations to Yanagihara's designs. As an enthusiastic fan and an artist influenced by Yanagihara, Mookie is capable of capturing the essence of the artworks beautifully. Having been deeply involved in SUNSURF's projects, Mookie joins forces with SUNSURF's expertise in aloha shirts and Yanagihara's design knowledge to launch a new era for Uncle Toris and Ryohei Yanagihara this season.
